The solution

MTV is the world’s most-watched television network and the leading multimedia brand for youth. The International division of MTV Networks, MTVNI, build a great mobile experience for their MTV European Music Awards (EMAs). As well as live simulcast on mobile TV, MTVNI wanted an interactive mobile website that could be access by music fans across dozens of European countries.

Apart from giving them the chance to participate in the voting, the mobile website gave MTV viewers the opportunity to download a mass of free content including wallpapers, ringtones and videos plus exclusive gossip live from the show. Premium content on the site included a downloadable quiz game where visitors can test their music knowledge and win tickets to the show in Copenhagen.

The mobile site was localized into 8 languages by using a network identifier people were automatically pushed to the right language.

Visitors to www.mtvema.com were able to simply input their mobile number and received a link to the mobile site on their handset.

One simple call to action on the website worked in all countries. In other media such as on the TV or print, the URL www.mtvema.com was promoted, taking people to the PC or mobile site based on the device they were accessing the site from.

The results

MTV analyzed data about its visitors, identifying usage trends and highlighting the most popular content. MTV detected consumers from over 40 countries world-wide accessing the site, indicating the importance of leveraging a global platform to launch and run a mobile web site.

In 2007 Animation FC were contracted to enable over 70 league soccer clubs to have a presence on the mobile web including top clubs: Tottenham Hotspur FC, Rangers FC, West Ham Utd FC and Aston Villa FC. The mobile content sites were built and managed by Animation FC and contain tailored content for each club that can be downloaded and paid for by fans anywhere in the world.

Promotion of the sites is carried out by each individual club. For example, Celtic capitalizes on its PC website traffic at www.celticfc.net and directs visitors automatically to specific pieces of content on mobile. The club also provides a direct link to its mobile site via an SMS shortcode. Here, users simply text the word CELTIC to 62866 and receive a WAP Push back to their mobile which, when clicked on, takes them directly to the Celtic FC mobile site where they are free to browse and buy content.

Animation FC offers clubs the ability to charge for their content world-wide. A mobile global payment system offers a seamless and transparent experience for users including compliance to the Payforit billing standard in the UK. Fans can also pay for content using debit/credit card and PayPal.

The results

Animation FC has created an easy way for soccer clubs to sell their content on the mobile web with payment seamlessly integrated into the whole browse and buy experience. By offering a bespoke solution for each club and managing the content all the clubs have to do is promote their site on the website, at matches, on fliers and through adverts.

Animation FC has maximized the revenue for the soccer clubs.
